Not so long-living (16/46)
In contrast, let's look at less "long-living games", some of which are from our "most-anticipated" list. We clearly see the tendency that some older games are getting more stable CCU, which is a combination of new audience flow (discount, Steam algorithms), and old-audience retention (nostalgia). I personally find it kinda surprising and funny that Doom: Eternal (2020) has more CCU than Doom: The Dark Ages (2025), Civilization 5 (2010) has more CCU than Civilization 7 (2025), and Hollow Knight (2017) has almost as much CCU as the new Hollow Knight: Silksong (2025) (ignoring the popularity spike) And yet this gives us some understanding of what is happening with active playtime, we haven't touched two more massive factors yet. I know, you are already tired, but trust me that this is important before we dive into a conclusion.
